The leaders of the world’s 20 largest economies issued a statement in which they expressed concern over the escalation of the war in Ukraine and Gaza, and also emphasized the importance of international cooperation to overcome global challenges such as climate change, the fight against poverty and the improvement of tax policy.

The G20 summit has become an important platform for discussing pressing world problems. The leaders met against the background of global political changes, in particular, taking into account the upcoming accession of Donald Trump to the post of US president in January 2025. One of the central issues on the agenda was the war in Ukraine and the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

Noting the “human suffering” and serious economic consequences of the war in Ukraine, the participants of the summit called for an immediate end to the violence and the provision of humanitarian aid. In particular, the statement noted that “deep concern” is caused by the catastrophic situation in Gaza, and the G20 countries called for an urgent ceasefire, protection of the civilian population and more active international support for the region.

However, despite the difficulty in formulating common positions, in particular, after the recent massive Russian airstrikes in Ukraine, the participants managed to reach agreement on the humanitarian aspects of the conflicts.

As for other global issues, the leaders reaffirmed the need for closer cooperation in the fight against climate change, in particular through the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the support of sustainable technologies. They also discussed the issue of tax policy, emphasizing the importance of its improvement to achieve greater global justice.
