The United States will announce a new package of defense aid to Ukraine, US Permanent Representative to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield said during a speech at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council in New York.

“We will announce the allocation of additional assistance to Ukraine in the field of security in the coming days,” the US representative noted, as quoted by Ukrinform.

Thomas-Greenfield also called on other countries to support the peace formula promoted by the Ukrainian side. According to her, “Ukrainians should get the security they deserve.” Moreover, “the peace must be fair and sustainable and fully respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” she emphasized.

“Russia must be held accountable for its crimes and violations of the UN Charter,” Thomas-Greenfield said.

The US ambassador also appealed to China to “stop inciting war on the European continent” and to support Russia’s military efforts.

“And let me state clearly, when this war is over, a sovereign, independent, democratic Ukraine will control its internationally recognized territory and continue its path to joining Euro-Atlantic institutions such as NATO,” the US representative emphasized.

In September, US President Joe Biden announced the allocation of a total of $7.9 billion in US aid to Ukraine within the framework of the Ukraine Security Promotion Initiative.

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022, as of October 15, the United States has allocated more than $59.1 billion in security assistance to Ukraine.
