A few months ago, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz consulted with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi regarding a conversation with Russian dictator Volodymyr Putin. The former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, said this.

“A few months ago, Chancellor Scholz asked President Zelensky if a call to Putin would be appropriate. Zelensky opposed the idea, and Scholz refrained. However, after the US election, Scholz decided that the time had come and called. Zelensky publicly but mildly criticized him for this,” he wrote on the social network Kh.

According to the ex-minister, there are several results of this move by Scholz. First, the call to Putin does not appear to do much to improve Scholz’s image among pro-Russian German voters.

At the same time, dictator Putin broke out of European isolation, and “Germany paved the way for him.” Berlin did it “right after Hungary”.

“Trust between Zelenskyi and Scholz was strained. Do not forget that Germany is the second largest provider of military aid to Ukraine after the United States,” Kuleba continued.

In addition, the result of Scholz’s call to Putin was that Germany’s reputation among Ukrainians suffered a significant blow.

“Putin has shown the world that his strategy is working – the West will eventually bow under the guise of calls for him to end the war, which he is not going to do. I may not be aware of all the arguments for this call, but it is difficult for me to understand what he was justified. In English it is called a “false start”. What is the equivalent of this term in German?” – summed up Dmytro Kuleba.

Scholz’s call to PutinRecently, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had a call with dictator Putin, where they discussed Ukraine, among other things. The chancellor condemned Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine and called on President Putin to put an end to it and withdraw the troops.

Volodymyr Zelensky, commenting on this call, called it “Pandora’s box”. It is noteworthy that the media reported that the Ukrainian president was against such a conversation. In his opinion, the conversation will only help Putin by reducing his isolation.

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson also reacted to the conversation between Scholz and Putin. According to him, this may lead to a return to the Norman format of negotiations regarding Russian aggression in Ukraine.

“I’m afraid Volodymyr Zelenskyi is absolutely right. We risk returning to the disgusting Franco-German Normandy format, in which Russia and Ukraine were treated as equal interlocutors in internal disputes,” he wrote.
