I just met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan: he is visiting Ukraine. And it is important that this is his first visit to another country immediately after the appointment of the new government of Japan – a visit to Ukraine. This is both symbolic – regarding our relations, Ukraine and Japan – and very practical: now this war in Europe is deciding many things for the whole world.
I thanked the minister and all of Japan for the support given to Ukraine. Since the beginning of the full-scale war – 12 billion dollars. Japan is a real leader in Asia in protecting the rules-based international order and simply people’s lives.
We also discussed the fact that now North Korea has become an accomplice of Russia and is helping Putin in this criminal war. I informed about the activity of the North Korean military in Kurshchyna, about all threats from cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow. Russia is teaching North Korea modern warfare, and this could cause much wider destabilization. Together with all our other partners, we must counteract this.
There is a new support package from Japan. Of course, we talked with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan about the strengthening of sanctions against Russia, about our economic cooperation with Japan, about reconstruction and about how to bring a just peace closer. We are also preparing for a conversation with the new Prime Minister of Japan.
Held another meeting today on the preparation of our internal Sustainability Plan – the item on the hero policy. The meeting was quite broad – not only the Ministry of Veterans Affairs. Various government officials. Many aspects. And it is very important that there should be no less specifics in the decisions of the state. Specific programs that work. Specific support measures. Specific things in the memory of the war and feat of the Ukrainian people. And specific proposals for the post-war period for our soldiers, who have proven to be the strongest force in Europe, capable of defending their home and the whole of Europe.
And this is just one of the many aspects in which the internal Sustainability Plan of Ukraine is interconnected with the Victory Plan, which we presented to partners and which can be implemented by partners themselves. Every day, Ukrainians prove with their courage and resilience that they can stop Russia. Courage and stability are also required from partners.
And a few more things. Today is the Day of Radio, Television and Communications Workers. And I am grateful to everyone who connects all of us in Ukraine and in the large Ukrainian community in the world with information, emotions, connection and, most importantly, understanding that Ukraine is and always will be.
I am grateful to all our people who, even in the most terrible moments, provide Ukrainians with the opportunity to talk with their relatives and hear how Ukraine is, how it is fighting, what Ukraine is doing, what Ukraine is striving for. No one in Ukraine should feel alone when we are all united, including by information, including communication, including by Ukrainian emotion – the feeling that we will overcome everything.
And today I met with Ukrainian students – with representatives of student self-government from all regions of Ukraine – on the eve of Student’s Day. I thanked them for being in Ukraine, for being so active, and I wish that all our young people, all our future generations could realize themselves in Ukraine – in a peaceful, safe and independent state.
