Former Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred, who currently plays for the Turkish Fenerbahce, spoke out on the topic of racism. The official website of UEFA quotes the 31-year-old Brazilian.

“It’s terrible that this is still happening in 2024. But you can’t think that we are always victims. We need to unite, regardless of skin color, race, religion. We are all the same, we are all human.

Football is a powerful sport in this regard. Everyone loves football, it covers the whole world. Let’s all fight to eradicate racism. The message of football players will reach many people.

Some people are a bit mentally retarded and support racism, but I believe that together as humanity we are moving in the right direction. I believe that in the near future we will not hear about racism again – but until that happens, we need to fight, stick together and be strong,” said Fred.

Fred played 14 matches for Fenerbahce this season, scoring four goals and providing three assists.
