In Sukhumi, demonstrators protesting against the Russian-Abkhazian “investment agreement” demolished part of the fence around the complex of government buildings on November 15 and entered the territory adjacent to the parliament building, and then inside the parliament and the presidential administration. The participants of the action threw eggs and bottles at the police officers, they used smoke grenades, but they did not put up any serious resistance. During the protest, 13 people were injured, three of them required hospitalization, their lives are not in danger. Shots were also heard near the parliament.
Against the background of the protest, the parliament canceled the session at which the vote on the ratification of the investment agreement with Moscow was supposed to take place, and the president’s administration promised to withdraw it. However, on November 16, it became known that Bzhania did not sign the document on the withdrawal from the parliament of the agreement on Russian investments.
According to the draft investment agreement between Sukhumi and Moscow, Russian companies can implement their investment projects on the territory of the unrecognized republic. The parties signed it at the end of October 2024. To enter into force, the document must be ratified.
