The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Takeshi Iwaya, visited Ukraine for talks with representatives of the authorities. The visit of the Japanese diplomat was not announced in advance.
As Kyodo reports, the head of the foreign policy department arrived in Ukraine after a stay in Peru. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan noted that this step is aimed at demonstrating Tokyo’s support for Kyiv in the fight against Russian aggression, which now includes the participation of North Korean troops.
Takeshi Iwaya came to Ukraine by train from Poland. On Saturday, November 16, he plans to meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiga. Negotiations with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy are also possible.
According to the representative of the Japanese Foreign Ministry, this visit took place against the background of fears about a possible reduction in financial support to Ukraine from the G7 countries due to the return of Donald Trump to the White House after his victory in the US elections on November 5.
Earlier we wrote that the Japanese commercial manufacturer of industrial drones Prodrone intends to supply its products to Ukraine for use in humanitarian demining operations.
We will also remind that the United States, South Korea and Japan announced the creation of a new multinational group to monitor the implementation of sanctions against North Korea.
