The picture was severely criticized in the network and its creators have already managed to comment on the scandalous incident.

“Genius” is a drama series that tells the story of Devran, a young talented man who decides where he should best direct his unusual abilities. The premiere of the picture from the company Ay Yapım took place in September of this year.

In the seventh series, two women played episodic roles of Ukrainian women. Dressed in revealing outfits and with bright make-up, they decided to try food from a local vendor. At that moment, the main character Devran was also nearby with his sister.

She asked what kind of women these were, and in response she heard that they were Ukrainian refugees who fled the war and are trying to survive in Turkey. The actor did not specifically call them prostitutes, but there was a hint of it in his words.

After the outcry in the network, the creators of the series got in touch and commented on the situation. They apologized for the scandalous episode, but at the same time called it simply “uncomfortable”.

“We regret the discomfort/indignation caused by the scene in episode 7 of the TV series Deha, which was broadcast on November 3, 2024, which caused Ukrainian viewers. We would like to state that we attach great importance to cultural diversity, social values, and mutual sincere respect is important to us to all our viewers. We apologize to everyone who was unintentionally offended,” the creators said in a statement “Genius” on Instagram.

We will remind you that earlier we wrote that after the outrage of Ukrainians, the film “Deaf Lovers” will be shown at the Tallinn Film Festival. The film depicts the romanticization of the relationship between Ukrainians and Russians during the war.
