At the time of the shelling, the church belonged to the Sumy Diocese of the UOC MP.
The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin, built in 1806, is an example of early classicism and a real decoration of the Sumy region.
It is this temple that is depicted on the coat of arms of the Sumy region as a symbol of the historical heritage and spiritual depth of the region.

As reported by Ukrinform, yesterday Russian troops carried out 22 shelling of the border territories and settlements of the Sumy region. 66 explosions were recorded. Khotinsk, Bilopolsk, Krasnopilsk, Novoslobidsk, Seredino-Budsk communities came under fire.
