The fourth largest bank in China – Bank of China – began to block transfers in yuan from countries that Russia uses for the purchase of goods more often.

Business representatives, lawyers and consultants told RBC about this, writes The Moscow Times.

So, recently, a company from the UAE was unable to transfer yuan from the Kazakh bank “CenterCredit” to the Chinese Chouzhou Commercial. The transaction was blocked by the Bank of China, which acts as a correspondent bank for the Kazakh credit organization, said Vladyslav Donchenko, deputy head of the legal committee of the Association of Exporters and Importers.

“At the same time, neither the director nor the founder of the company had formal ties with Russia,” he emphasized.

According to him, Chouzhou Bank now asks to pay it from Kazakhstan only from those banks with which it has direct correspondent relations. The same problems arose during the transfer of funds from banks in Georgia and Armenia to China, says George Okromchedlishvili, a senior analyst at the ITSWM consulting company.

Maksym Spasskyi, secretary of the General Council of the Russian-Asian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, knows about similar cases. He reminded that Bank of China has the most serious and complex compliance among Chinese banks.

“Only some suspicion of danger – they immediately do not want to make a payment,” says Spassky.

In general, according to him, if we talk about the purchase of goods from China, then “payments are made to small regional banks for non-serious goods”, but when it comes to the supply of complex equipment or electronics, and the payer is a company from the UAE, Kyrgyzstan or Kazakhstan, “they agree all cards”.
