Scientists have made a sensational discovery while studying ancient artifacts known as “Treasures of Villena”.
It turned out that some of these unique products, dating back to the Bronze Age, are made of meteoric iron. This means that ancient craftsmen used material of cosmic origin to create their jewelry and tools long before humans learned to smelt iron from earth’s ores.
The “Treasures of Villena” were discovered in Spain in 1963, they are a collection of 66 objects made mainly of gold and silver. Among them, two mysterious artifacts were found – an iron bracelet and a hemisphere covered with gold. It was these objects that attracted the attention of scientists.
The analysis of the composition of the metal showed that it contains a high concentration of nickel, which is characteristic of meteoric iron. Comparing the obtained data with the composition of known meteorites allowed scientists to come to the conclusion that the iron for the manufacture of these artifacts was extracted from a cosmic body that fell to Earth many thousands of years ago.
This discovery not only expands our knowledge of ancient technology and craftsmanship, but also raises new questions about how Bronze Age people perceived the world and space. Perhaps meteoric iron was considered something special, having magical properties.
The discovery of meteoric iron in the “Treasures of Villena” also shows that ancient people were much more closely connected with space than we used to think. They not only observed the stars and planets, but also used materials of cosmic origin to create their artifacts.
