As “Suspilne” reports, the Shevchenkiv District Court of Kyiv decided at a meeting on November 14 that Shufrych will be kept in custody until December 5 inclusive, without the possibility of bail.
The defense side stated that Shufrych’s suspicion was unfounded and there was no evidence base. The lawyers asked for a preventive measure not related to detention.
“He has been in the SIZO for 14 months, without an indictment. He was more useful in the parliament. He has a number of illnesses, just like his father. There are reasons to review the decision, any precautionary one, in order to implement their decisions,” the lawyer said.
The prosecutor, for his part, noted that the suspicion is well-founded, and the risks have not decreased, and insisted on continuing detention.
As reported, the Security Service of Ukraine, together with the State Bureau of Investigation and the Prosecutor General’s Office, collected a well-argued evidence base of Shufrych’s anti-Ukrainian activities. According to the SBU materials, he was informed of the suspicion under Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason).
