The Spanish Meteorological Institute AEMET has declared a red level of danger for the eastern and southern regions of the country due to predicted heavy rains. The highest warning level is in place until noon on Thursday in some areas of the Valencia region, as well as parts of Malaga and Tarragona provinces, where up to 180 millimeters of rain is expected in 12 hours.
The severe weather warning comes just two weeks after catastrophic floods killed more than 200 people and caused severe damage to many parts of the country. Meteorologists urge residents of the affected regions to be especially careful, as further downpours may cause additional flooding and damage to infrastructure.
