Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in Ukraine, almost 10,000 km of railway tracks and 43 station buildings have been damaged, destroyed or lost.

“Since February 24, 2022, almost 10,000 km of tracks and 43 station buildings have been damaged, destroyed or lost. There is also damage to other infrastructure facilities,” the message says.
According to the report of the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE), which covers the period from February 2022 to January 2024, the total amount of damaged railway track is up to 507 km, 126 railway stations and stations have been damaged or destroyed, of which more than 55 are controlled, and the rest – in territories not controlled by Ukraine.
In particular, more than 700 km of railway tracks are located in the temporarily occupied territory. In total, 5,500 buildings and about 4,000 structures belonging to Ukrzaliznytsia were damaged, destroyed or lost.
KSE analysts estimate the total direct damage caused to the railway infrastructure at $4.3 billion.
“Railwaymen are restoring tracks damaged by the enemy. So, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, more than 3.6 thousand km of tracks, 41 station buildings and other infrastructure objects have been partially and completely restored so that trains can continue to run,” Ukrzaliznytsia JSC added.
During the seasonal track repair work in 8 months of 2024, railway workers have already managed to repair 737.6 km of tracks, which is 62% of the planned volume for the year.
