According to the investigation, in February 2024, the so-called “watcher” for the Uman district and the correctional colony voluntarily organized a “strike” within the walls of the institution. The head of the prison helped him in this and contributed in every way.
Criminals and prisoners aged 33 to 56 were also present at the criminal gathering. Among them is the “watcher” behind the penitentiary, who is currently serving his sentence there. All of them are accused of committing serious crimes. For example, robbery, preparation for intentional murder, etc.
At the meeting, the participants discussed the distribution of spheres of criminal influence and income, the filling and control of the “obshchak”, the undisputed fulfillment by prisoners of the tasks set by the “watchers”, the observance of thieving traditions and the appointment of punishment for their violation.
Operatives of the strategic investigations department in the Cherkasy region of the National Police, investigators of the State Security Bureau, and prosecutors of the Prosecutor General’s Office detained the organizer and participants of the “shodka”, as well as the head of the correctional colony. So far, eight persons involved have been notified of suspicions under part. 1 Art. 255-2 (organization and participation in a criminal assembly, as well as assistance in its conduct) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The issue of choosing precautionary measures is being resolved.
The suspect may face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
