“The Israeli military has begun construction work along the so-called “Alpha” line, which separates the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights from Syria.”, — write: www.ukrinform.ua
As noted, the UN has confirmed to AP information regarding the entry of Israeli troops into the demilitarized zone during the works, which is a violation of the cease-fire rules in force in this area.
According to AR, Israel is building roads and barriers along the above-mentioned line. High-resolution images taken Nov. 5 by Planet Labs PBC for the AP show more than 7.5 kilometers of construction along the Alpha Line, which begins about 3 kilometers southeast of the Israeli-controlled settlement of Majdal Shams, where the July 12 children and teenagers were killed by Hezbollah rocket fire.
Also in the pictures you can see a trench between two embankments, parts of which appear to be covered with fresh asphalt. Along it, there is probably a fence in the direction of Syria.
Construction proceeds in a southeasterly direction, then turns south along the Alpha line and southeast again. The pictures show excavators and other earthmoving equipment actively digging along the route.
The area is also believed to be littered with unexploded ordnance and landmines left over from decades of conflict.
Israel gained control of the Golan Heights in 1981, but the annexation was not recognized by the international community or the UN Security Council. The territory with an area of about 1200 square meters. km is of great strategic importance in the region.
