Olena Zelenska mentioned her work as a screenwriter at the “Kvartal 95” studio for the informational campaign to overcome gender stereotypes “Of course you can.” The first lady said that she became a writer of comedy shows against the wishes of her parents.
– It was against the wishes, of course, of parents and adults around, because at that moment it was not possible to call it a profession at all. Having graduated from a powerful university, having a profession, I do not work in it, but go to write scripts for television shows that were not serious, they are comedy shows. And such a profession as such did not exist then, probably, and now it is difficult to find where humorous screenwriters are trained. They teach screenwriting, but no one will teach you how to write humor, you learn it yourself, she said.
According to Zelenska, the author’s group of three people worked without days off, and she was the only woman in it.
– I remember that after I returned from the second maternity leave, I myself suggested to them that I cannot work full time, I will work half a week, and probably it will be fair that I will receive half the fee. The fact is that they agreed to it. But now I understand that I was probably wrong and I should have approached this conversation in a different way, – the president’s wife said.
