Details: According to the channel, Russia is trying to influence the Romanian elections “through proxies, through intermediaries, such as Russian-linked or Russian-funded organizations and institutions, possibly including candidates.”

The publication claims that in Romania every Russian citizen “is under constant monitoring,” and the country’s counterintelligence monitors possible attempts “to question Romania’s membership in the European Union and NATO.”

In addition, Romanian deputies drew attention to the problem, who called to check whether countries such as Russia, China, North Korea are interfering in the elections – for example, whether their hackers are attacking Romanian state institutions.

Among other signs of such influence, Digi24 cites networks of bots and trolls in social networks that try to “obtain illegitimate content for the promotion of certain candidates”, in connection with which the Romanian police also initiated proceedings.

As a reminder, the first round of presidential elections in Romania will be held on November 24, and the second on December 8. The current president, representative of the National Liberals Klaus Iohannis, cannot remain in his position for a third term.

Last month, one of the candidates for the presidency of Romania, the former Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Mircea Joane, got into a scandal when it was revealed that the former coordinator of his campaign had ties to a Russian propagandist and businessman.
