Details: Gehly dismissed speculation that Trump might pull the US out of NATO.

“I don’t expect the US to abandon NATO. They recognize the importance of the Alliance, they recognize the importance of preventing further conflicts in Europe,” he said.

At the same time, according to the head of the British defense department, Trump has the right to demand more defense spending from European countries.

“But I claim, and have been claiming for a long time, that the European countries in NATO should do more hard work,” Gili emphasized.

He added that Trump is “fairly pushing European countries to do more for better financing of NATO.”

The defense secretary said US commitment to NATO has continued through Trump’s first term as president, and he has no reason to believe that support will end during his second term.

Earlier it was reported that the government of Great Britain considers possible options in the context of US President-elect Donald Trump’s approach to Ukraine.

In turn, Lithuanian Defense Minister Laurinas Kaschyunas believes that European countries should not repeat the mistake 2016 and create a barrier with US President-elect Donald Trump, but instead cooperate on issues of common interest.
