Details: According to the publication, in London they hope that Biden will finally give permission for long-range strikes on the Russian Federation, which Kyiv has been seeking for several months.
“We really want to make sure that we can use the time between now and January 20 (when Trump will become the US president) as effectively as possible, and not just postpone everything for later, until the next administration,” said the publication’s interlocutor in the British government.
Debate over whether Ukraine should be allowed to launch Storm Shadow missiles deep into Russian territory has been raging on the sidelines for months.
As the publication notes, Ukraine is currently allowed to use missiles on Russian territory only in limited cases, for example, to strike troops near the border, although the exact arrangements have never been made public.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has been calling for several months to allow strikes deep into Russia.
The article states that if Ukraine receives permission for long-range Storm Shadows strikes before Donald Trump takes office, it will be more difficult to revoke this permission.
Another source said Biden is expected to “turn on the faucets” with more financial aid to Ukraine in the weeks before he leaves the White House.
Starmer and Macron are also expected to discuss the implications of Donald Trump’s future presidency for the Middle East and the possibility of a trade war with Europe.
The White House announced the day before that before the end of his presidential term, Joe Biden will speak about the need to support Ukraine against the background of the arrival of the Donald Trump administration.
Biden’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, confirmed that the administration will seek to use all the resources allocated by Congress for military support of Ukraine before the end of its term.
