In support of the public indictment by the prosecutors of the Kupyan district prosecutor’s office of the Kharkiv region, the court found the resident of Velikiy Burluk village guilty on the facts of justification, recognition as legitimate, denial of armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, committed with the use of mass media, and collaborative activity (Part 3 of Article 436-2 , Part 6 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). This is reported by the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
He was sentenced to 11 years of imprisonment with deprivation of the right to hold positions related to the performance of administrative and managerial functions in the provision of services and maintenance of radio and television stations for 10 years with confiscation of property.
The prosecutors proved that during the invasion of the armed forces of the Russian Federation on the territory of the Kupyan district, the accused, who worked as an engineer in the local television and radio company, voluntarily went to cooperate with the enemy.
In August 2022, the man concluded a “remunerated work performance contract” with representatives of the occupation administration. Having the necessary skills and access to equipment, the collaborator organized the broadcasting of Russian TV channels in the territory of Kupyan Oblast, where anti-Ukrainian content was subsequently broadcast. The man received payment in Russian rubles for this.
Moreover, the accused himself gave an interview to Mariana Naumova, a Russian propagandist, which was later broadcast on the First Channel. In the recorded video, the man, deliberately distorting the facts, denied the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. He spoke in support of the enemy’s actions, presented the Russian military as “liberators” and told how the aggressor state “worries” about the local population, providing residents with “human aid”.
The man was awaiting trial while in custody.
During the trial, the accused pleaded not guilty. Regarding the interview, the man stated that he does not remember whether he made any comments on camera.
The guilty verdict was handed down by the Chuguyiv city court of the Kharkiv region.
