The speech of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi at the summit of the European Political Community in Budapest on November 7 was not included in the official stream of the event, which is received by journalists, the correspondent of Radio Liberty reports.

Zelensky spoke second, before him the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban spoke, after the Ukrainian leader – French President Emmanuel Macron. Macron and Orban’s speech was broadcast live and posted online, while Zelenskyi’s speech was not shown or posted.

When asked why this happened, the Hungarian representative of the organizers of the event said that “the speech of the president (Zelensky) was not public, but the footage was given to the president’s team.” “Please contact them for the video,” he replied.

Representatives of the Ukrainian authorities, to whom RFE/RL contacted, called the statement that it was Ukraine that asked not to give the stream false. “The president’s speeches are always public, if this is provided by the format of the event. We did not make any requests not to broadcast or publicize the speech,” the response reads.

Journalists eventually received video footage of the speech of the President of Ukraine and were able to share it with their colleagues.

Zelensky thanked partners for their support of Ukraine, while noting that defense requires “a sufficient number of weapons, not support in negotiations.”

“Hugs with Putin will not help. Some of you have been embracing it for 20 years and it just keeps getting worse. He thinks only about wars and will not change. Only pressure can restrain him,” he said.

The President pointed out that most of the countries participating in the summit have joined the work of the diplomatic system, which can push Russia to a just peace.

On November 7, a summit of the European Political Community will take place in Budapest, during which European leaders will discuss the results of the US elections and support for Ukraine. The summit brings together more than 40 leaders from almost all European states (except Belarus and Russia).
