It is known that flights from Ukraine to Iran were suspended as early as 2020. Then the plane of the International Airlines of Ukraine (UAI) was shot down by the Iranian military during its departure from Tehran. Two rockets were fired at it.
As a result of the plane crash, 167 passengers and 9 crew members died, it was included in the list of the 50 biggest disasters in history. Among them were citizens of Ukraine.
On January 8, 2020, a Boeing 737-800NG of the “Ukraine International Airlines” flight from Tehran to Kyiv was shot down shortly after takeoff from the international airport of the capital of Iran. All 176 people who were on the plane died – 167 passengers and 9 crew members. Among the dead were citizens of seven countries, including 11 Ukrainians (all 9 crew members and 2 passengers).
Only on the morning of January 11, after several days of denials, Iran officially admitted its guilt for the downing of a Ukrainian plane from its anti-aircraft missile system, which it called a mistake, and took responsibility.
