“Today (November 7 – ed.) I joined the Minister of Veterans Affairs Natalia Kalmykova, Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko and Deputy Head of the Office of the President Iryna Vereshchuk to announce the launch of the new Rehab4U program from USAID,” the US ambassador emphasized in a telegram.
According to her, this project is “an investment in the amount of 40 million dollars aimed at strengthening rehabilitation services for veterans and civilians, which aims to unlock human capital for the recovery of Ukraine.”
USAID in partnership with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine announced the launch of the five-year project “Rehabilitation in Ukraine” (Rehab4U).
The Rehab4U project will unite state institutions, public organizations and international partners to provide Ukrainians with access to quality care and support services. According to Health Minister Viktor Lyashko, “this project is extremely important, because the war created new challenges for the health care system, and the development of a modern rehabilitation system is a priority.”
From July 1, 2024, the organization Momentum Wheels for Humanity, with the support of USAID, began implementing a project that will cover at least 15 regions of Ukraine. Partners also include Results for Development (R4D), Project Hope, the National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine and Deloitte. The program provides for the development of rehabilitation infrastructure at the community level, improving the quality and availability of assistive technologies, as well as training specialists in the field of rehabilitation.
US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink emphasized that supporting the rehabilitation project is a priority for the United States. “We are working to ensure that Ukrainians affected by the war can receive quality rehabilitation services and contribute to the recovery of Ukraine,” she emphasized.
The Rehab4U project will also contribute to “social inclusion and empowerment of people with disabilities, ensuring their integration into communities and economic development of the country.”
