In Khmelnytskyi region, an official of the forestry industry and his accomplices were exposed, who were responsible for the illegal felling of trees with losses of UAH 6.5 million.
As the OGP writes, the head of the South-Western Interregional Department of Forestry and Hunting and two employees of the forestry industry from Khmelnytskyi region were informed of the suspicion. They were charged with exceeding official authority, which caused serious consequences (Part 1 of Article 28, Part 3 of Article 365 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, in 2021 the official held the position of first deputy chief – chief forester of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Department of Forestry and Hunting. His official powers included approving and issuing logging tickets for main-use fellings.
At that time, the suspect sanctioned illegal felling of trees in the Letychiv Forestry for a year. Forest plantations were felled without conducting an environmental impact assessment and with the participation of the then chief specialist of the department of the Khmelnytskyi Oblast LMG and the head of the department of the Letychiv forestry enterprise.
In this way, 948 trees of various species were illegally cut down on an area of 3.3 hectares.
6.5 million hryvnias in damages were caused as a result of illegal actions.
Currently, the head of the South-Western Interregional Department of Forestry and Hunting has been placed in custody with the possibility of bail, and he has also been suspended from his post.
