The total capacity of new distributed generation in Ukraine will reach at least 900 MW by the end of the year.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said this at the Kyiv International Energy Forum.
In his speech, the prime minister said that the government prefers not to make any predictions about what the situation will be like in winter, because it depends on many factors, first of all, on the intensity of Russian attacks on the power system. But for its part, the state is preparing “in all possible directions.”
“We agreed to increase the physical volume of imports from 1.7 to 2.1 GW. In addition, it was possible to agree on a separate volume of the so-called emergency support. We continue the development of distributed generation. By the end of this year – literally yesterday we held an energy meeting – 900 MW plus more than 200 additional capacity will be installed, launched and working,” Shmyhal said.
He added that Ukraine has accumulated a large stock of energy equipment for repairs in case of shelling and has a sufficient supply of gas.
“The conducted preparations give us cautious optimism regarding the passing of the winter,” said the Prime Minister.
In June, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Ukraine plans to build up to 1 GW of distributed generation in 2024 and another 4 GW in the coming years.
It will be recalled that the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, during her visit to Kyiv on September 20, confirmed Ukraine’s support in ensuring a stable supply of energy, despite Russian attacks on critical infrastructure.
Earlier we wrote that today it is impossible to say how many hours Ukrainians will be without electricity in winter and whether there will be blackouts. The Russians have their own terrorist plans – the destruction of the energy infrastructure, and Ukraine is preparing for this.
