Lytvyn also admitted that due to technical reasons, the time for vetoing this law had already passed.
We will remind you that the Law on Improving Liability for Offenses in the Field of Forest Use and Combating Illegal Trafficking of Wood was adopted by the Council on October 10, and is currently submitted to the President for signature. For illegal transportation, storage, and sale of trees, fines are provided for citizens from UAH 510 to UAH 15,300, for officials from UAH 3,400 to UAH 15,300. If we are talking about significant sizes of wood, fines of UAH 34,000-51,000 or restriction of liberty for a period of up to three years are provided for.
Maksym Pavlyuk, deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Law Enforcement and one of the authors of the document, explained that the law on strengthening responsibility for offenses in the field of forest use and combating illegal timber trafficking does not apply to the population, but to “black loggers”.
Previously, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, with the support of partners, launched an experimental project on additional supply of firewood to the population.
