Sweden handed over to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine two aid packages totaling almost 9 million euros.

Swedish Minister of Civil Defense Karl-Oscar Bolin said this during a briefing following a meeting with the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko, Ukrinform reports.

“I am very pleased to announce the provision of 2 packages of civil assistance. We are currently talking about the transfer of aid worth approximately 9 million euros. First, the Swedish Coast Guard will hand over two vessels together with various equipment to strengthen maritime security,” he informed.

According to him, the second aid package will provide for the transfer of about 40,000 protective respirator masks to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

“Such respirator masks will be useful for various representatives of the central executive authorities as part of their countermeasures against various threats,” said the Minister of Civil Defense of Sweden.

Bolin added that the visit of the Swedish delegation to Kyiv underlines Sweden’s desire to provide Ukraine with as much support as it needs.

“Sweden has been assisting Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale offensive of the Russian Federation, and we would like to assure you that this will continue as long as necessary,” he noted.

Klymenko assured the Minister of Civil Defense of Sweden that Ukraine highly appreciates this assistance. According to him, the political support of Sweden on the way to Ukraine’s membership in the EU and NATO is also important for Ukraine.

According to the Minister of Internal Affairs, another practical result of this meeting was the signing of a joint statement of intent between their departments.

Klymenko explained that this document is evidence of their joint desire to develop a productive partnership and integrate efforts to overcome security threats.

“We have constant cooperation with the Swedish side, in particular in the field of demining, and we greatly appreciate their contribution, strengthening the capabilities of our pyrotechnicians. The State Emergency Service, the State Security Service, the National Police interact with contractors subordinate to the Swedish Ministry of Defense, the Swedish Emergency Situations Agency, and the Coast Guard. We hope that this cooperation will only strengthen in the future,” the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

The parties also discussed the issue of strengthening Ukraine’s capabilities to protect critical infrastructure facilities. According to the Minister of Internal Affairs, increasing the means of detecting and suppressing anti-aircraft targets is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

“In turn, we are ready to share the unprecedented skills and knowledge acquired by specialists of the Ministry of Internal Affairs units during the full-scale invasion – this is repelling an armed attack of the Russian Federation, eliminating the consequences of enemy attacks, civil defense, demining and countering hybrid threats,” Klimenko informed.

According to him, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is also ready to start cooperation with Swedish partners in the field of unmanned aviation.

Earlier, the Swedish government allocated about 40 million Swedish crowns – 3.7 million dollars – for humanitarian aid to Ukraine. This support is provided through the food program of the United Nations (UN).

Sweden will allocate $683 million in military aid to Ukraine. This is already the 15th aid package and a record for this country.
