Military communications specialist Oleksandr Solonko, who is currently in the Pokrovsky district, emphasized in an interview with Radio NV that Ukraine’s current problems at the front are not only related to Russia’s military advantages, but also to society’s attitude to mobilization.

Today, we are raking out the consequences not only of the advantage that the enemy has accumulated; and we are raking out the consequences of those decisions and the attitude of society, which we talked about a year ago, when we were in Zaporizhzhia. Now, in my opinion, the military and social component is felt, a difficult situation,” said Solonko on Radio NV.

The military noted that the pressure that the Russians have been exerting on Donbas for more than a year, starting with the offensive on Avdiivka, has now begun to produce results.

They (Russian military – ed.), having, probably, specially trained people who sat down with a calculator, calculated how much force they needed to move this positional static defense, and began to achieve results,” Solonko suggested.

He said that the Russians have stockpiled air bombs and now, if they press against Ukrainian positions, they are detected and destroyed by airstrikes, as well as drones and artillery.

We can’t do anything about KABs. In order for them not to fly, one must either have an advantage in the air (it [питання] to the Air Force, to specialists who understand this); or something that has been in communication for many months, is getting or creating [далекобійних] means, permission to use foreign means to destroy aviation, warehouses, weapons production facilities, anti-aircraft missile defense systems, etc., which does not exist. Accordingly, we have a situation where we are unable to do anything about it now. And under this pressure, we gradually have to roll back,” the soldier explained.

He also said that the Ukrainian military does not receive the necessary reinforcements to deter the offensive of the invaders.

We now have the consequences of that demagoguery, which has also been going on for a year around the issue of mobilization. … The military leadership came out a long time ago and said that we lack so many people. Some kind of political hysteria started around this, completely incomprehensible to me. This was then used in the communication regarding the change of military leadership — as one of the reasons, although it is also unclear to me,” said Solonko.

He added that the change in the commander did not change the need for people, while politicians did began to compete, who will be more liked by the category of voters who do not want to fight.”

Mobilization in Ukraine after the adoption of the new law

On May 18, a new law on mobilization entered into force in Ukraine, which provided for a deadline for updating military registration data by Ukrainian conscripts and reservists. This term expired on July 16.

According to The New York Times, Ukraine mobilized 30,000 people a month after the new mobilization law came into force in May 2024.

On October 17, Ukrainian veteran Yevhen Dykiy stated that the rate of mobilization in Ukraine has fallen again to the May value before the adoption of the law and now it does not even cover combat losses.

On October 29, the Secretary of the National Security Council Oleksandr Lytvynenko announced that they plan to mobilize another 160,000 people to the Defense Forces.
