The first volunteers who applied to the recruiting center of the Ukrainian Legion in Poland will sign contracts with the Armed Forces until the end of 2024.

Ukrinform was told about this in the recruiting center itself.

During the month of operation, the center received more than 500 applications from citizens of Ukraine living in 30 countries of the world.

Most applications are sent by Ukrainians living in Poland and the Czech Republic, but there are also applicants from Great Britain, Ireland, Canada and the USA.

90% of applications were received from men, and 10% – from women. About half of the applications belong to young people under the age of 25, the other half to slightly older people.

“If we talk about military specialties, young people are more likely to declare their desire to join assault units or to be UAV operators. Older people are inclined to positions close to their specialties in peaceful life, for example, in material support units,” the representative of the center emphasized.

It is noted that the first volunteers will sign contracts with the Armed Forces by the end of the year. After that, they will be sent to one of the training grounds in Poland for training. Volunteers will be able to sign a contract for either three years or until the end of the war.

We are talking about the legion, the creation of which was announced by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, during the signing of the security agreement with Poland in early July.

On the sidelines of the NATO summit in Washington, the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry, Radosław Sikorski, said that several thousand Ukrainians had already registered for the ranks of the Legion. However, later it became known that “the minister was either misinformed, or it worked broken phone” and that there was no talk of official registration at that time.

It was previously reported that the creation of a volunteer Ukrainian legion in Poland with the possible participation of foreigners is provided for by the bilateral agreement on security guarantees signed on July 8. Every citizen of Ukraine who decides to join the volunteer legion will be able to sign a contract with the Armed Forces.

Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said that the volunteers will receive modern training from allies from Poland, Lithuania and other EU countries, the legion will be equipped with the best equipment that will increase its effectiveness on the battlefield.

On October 1, the recruiting center of the Ukrainian Legion in Poland opened in the Polish city of Lublin. During the first days of the recruitment center’s operation, 138 applications for interviews were received through the website and another 58 through consular offices.
