A new study by scientists from the University of Colorado at Boulder and the University of California at Riverside has found serious health risks associated with long periods of sitting, even in young and active people.

It turned out that modern youth, who spend several hours a day at the computer and gadgets, are prone to an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases and premature aging.

Scientists analyzed data from more than a thousand participants aged 28 to 49 and found that the more time a person spends sitting, the higher their cholesterol level and body mass index. Moreover, even regular physical exercises do not fully compensate for the damage from prolonged sitting.

The study showed that in order to reduce the risks, it is necessary not only to do sports, but also to reduce the time spent in a sitting position. Scientists recommend using standing desks, taking regular breaks while working and engaging in more active sports.

The results of the study disprove the popular belief that young and healthy people can afford to lead a sedentary lifestyle. It turns out that the negative consequences of long-term sitting appear already at a young age and can lead to serious health problems in the future.
