The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine provided Finnish law enforcement officers with materials for the investigation of a citizen of the Russian Federation, a member of the “Rusych” unit, who was arrested in Finland.

This is reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office.

According to the Finnish prosecutor’s office, this citizen of the Russian Federation, the deputy commander of the unit, is suspected of committing five war crimes in Ukraine in 2014, including the murder of 22 Ukrainian soldiers and serious wounding of four.

Since Finnish law classifies these crimes as international, the suspect cannot be extradited to Ukraine, and Finland has launched its own investigation. Two prosecutors specializing in war crimes are working in the trial.

Ukrainian law enforcement officers informed the suspect about his participation in a terrorist organization back in 2016. The Prosecutor General’s Office sent a request for his detention in August 2023, and in September – a request for extradition. Finland launched its own investigation in December 2023.

During the investigation, the National Bureau of Investigation of Finland (NBI) cooperated with the Ukrainian Office of the General Prosecutor and the SBU, and also exchanged information with Europol, Eurojust and the International Criminal Court.

Earlier we wrote that in Finland, the prosecutor’s office charged the founder and ex-commander of the Rusych military group, Voyislav Torden (Yan Petrovskiy), with committing war crimes in the east of Ukraine.

We will also remind that the National Bureau of Investigation of Finland announced the completion of the criminal proceedings on suspicion of committing war crimes in Ukraine in 2014.
