The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy stated that they “took into account” the advice of the European Commission regarding the “Edyny Novyni” telethon. However, it is said that the state will stop funding the telethon only after the end of martial law.

This was announced by the Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications Mykola Tochytskyi.

He explained that the goal of the state is “to create a space for truth and freedom of speech, and this work continues every day.”

Also, according to him, the draft state budget for 2025 provides for 2.2 billion hryvnias to finance the public broadcaster Suspilne. Tochytskyi assured that this fully corresponds to his request.

We will remind you that on October 30, the European Commission presented a report containing an assessment of Ukraine’s annual progress on the way to EU membership in all negotiation sections. In particular, I considered the media sphere. Yes, the European Commission believes that Ukraine should consider whether the telethon is really the best platform for the free exchange of opinions.

The European Union also praised Suspilne for its neutral presentation of information and advised the state TV channel Rada to focus on parliamentary affairs.

In 2024, more than 1.5 billion hryvnias were allocated from the state budget to the telethon and foreign broadcasting of Ukraine.

Earlier, the new Minister of Culture Mykola Tochytskyi said that there was, is and will be a telethon. But you need to change the format.

The survey showed that Ukrainians’ trust in the Yedyni Novyny telethon continues to fall.
