The Norwegian government will allocate NOK 1.3 billion (over $118.2 million) for the purchase of equipment, spare parts and weapons for F-16 fighters. Ukraine will receive the planes themselves before the new year.

Norwegian Defense Minister Bjorn Arild Gram stated this at a joint briefing with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umyerov in Odesa, Ukrinform reports.

“The first transfer of F-16 by Norway to Ukraine will be carried out this year,” said the Norwegian minister.

He noted that in addition to the planes themselves, Ukraine will also need components for their provision. “We will help finance the purchase of weapons systems for the F-16, as well as various components to support them. NOK 1.3 billion will be spent on this,” the Norwegian Defense Minister said.

Also during the meeting, the ministers discussed the strengthening of air defense systems, the provision of missile systems to Ukraine, and investments in the Ukrainian defense and industrial complex.

“Today we visited defense industry facilities in Odesa, and I am impressed by how much you were able to increase the scale of production, as well as the level of your innovation,” said Gram.

We will remind you that the first F-16 fighters from the Netherlands with 24 ships have already arrived in Ukraine, the rest will be delivered by the end of the year.

By the end of 2024, Ukraine will receive another batch of F-16 fighters from Denmark. The date and number of aircraft in the new deliveries are currently not disclosed for reasons of operational security.
