The armed forces of Ukraine are advancing in the Kursk region of Russia, while Russian “militants” announced a new attempt by Ukrainian forces to break through the border into Kursk and another attempt to launch a mechanized attack on its territory.
This is stated in a new report of the Institute for the Study of War.
ISW analysts confirm that Ukrainian forces have recently advanced into the western part of the SSU salient in Kursk Oblast amid ongoing fighting inside and west of that salient. Footage with confirmed geolocation, published on October 21, shows that the armed forces advanced in the western part of the village of Novoivanivka (southeast of Korenevo).
At the same time, Russian “militants” claim that Ukrainian forces allegedly tried to cross the international border near the village of Volfine (Glushkiv district of Kursk region, southwest of Glushkiv). “Voenkory” also reports that the Armed Forces of Ukraine allegedly deployed additional reserves near the Kruglenke-Nikolske line. (northwest of Suzhi and southeast of Korenevo), from where the attack was launched by the forces of two mechanized company-tactical groups.
The ISW reminds that the units of the 106th Airborne Division, 83rd Separate Airborne Brigade and 56th Airborne Regiment, 155th Separate Brigade are currently deployed from the Russian forces in Kurshchyna marines In addition, medical unitsof the Russian Black Wolves evacuation squad were recently relocated from the Bakhmut direction to Kursk.
At the same time, Russian sources are trying to justify the slow pace of the Russian advance in the Kursk region, “falsely calling this direction extremely difficult,” ISW experts state. In particular, one of the commanders of the Chechen special forces unit, Akhmat, claimed that the fighting in the Kursk region is very intense, and the Kursk direction is allegedly the most difficult section of the front in the entire theater of operations — they say, the Russians are fighting against 14 Ukrainian brigades and “western private military companies.”
