President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that instead of the buffer zone on the territory of Ukraine, which was planned by the Russians, the Defense Forces created a buffer zone near the Ukrainian border on Russian territory.
He announced this on Monday, October 21, on his Telegram channel.
It is noted that the president held a meeting with the Minister of Defense Rustem Umyerov, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrsky and the Chief of the General Staff Anatoly Barhylevych.
“First of all, the front. Our military tasks and steps for the near term and everything that is needed for the effectiveness of our soldiers’ actions on the front lines: weapons, military equipment, support, staffing of brigades,” Zelenskyy noted.
Commander-in-Chief Sirsky also gave a detailed report on the situation on all fronts of hostilities and on repelling attacks by Russian forces. The course of the Kursk operation was discussed separately.

The situation in the Kursk region is the main thing
The Kursk operation of the Armed Forces began on August 6. Only on August 12, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy for the first time confirmed the operation of the Defense Forces in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation.
He emphasized that the purpose of the operation is to liberate the border territories of Ukraine from Russian troops, which regularly shelled the Sumy region.
Since August, the Russian Federation has been gradually increasing its grouping in this direction, and on October 10, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi said that Russia had transferred 50,000 military personnel from other directions to the Kursk region.
On October 16, Zelensky announced that the victory plan involves continuing operations on the territory of Russia and strengthening the offensive potential of the Armed Forces.
