The Hezbollah group, recognized as a terrorist organization in the United States, has chosen a new leader to replace Hassan Nasrallah, who was recently killed in an airstrike on the capital of Lebanon, reports Al-Arabia.

According to mass media, Hashim Safi al-Din became the general secretary of the group. Previously, he was the head of the Hezbollah executive board and its deputy.

The election of the new leader of Hezbollah took place on September 29 at the council of the organization. This was confirmed by Al-Arabia and Al-Hadath sources.

Official confirmation of this information has not yet been received.

Safi al-Din is Nasrallah’s cousin and the son-in-law of Qasem Soleimani, the former commander of Iran’s Quds Force. Therefore, the candidacy of Safi al-Din was considered the most likely in the selection of Nasrallah’s successor.

Previously, the Iranian-backed Lebanese radical group Hezbollah, designated a terrorist organization by the United States, officially confirmed the death of its leader Hassan Nasrallah. On September 28, the Israel Defense Forces announced the death of Nasrallah as a result of an Israeli airstrike in Beirut.

Nasrallah-led Hezbollah, designated a terrorist organization by the US but only its paramilitary wing but not a political party by the EU, has forged close ties with other Iranian-backed armed groups, helping to train and arm their fighters.

On September 27, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned at the UN that Israel’s actions against Iran-backed Hezbollah will not stop.

Netanyahu’s speech came amid diplomatic efforts by the United States, France and other Western allies to call for a 21-day ceasefire after fighting escalated this week on the Lebanese-Israeli border, where Israel is shelling what it says are pro-backed targets. Iran “Hezbollah”.
