It supports the transfer of Taurus to Ukraine, but such a decision requires a unanimous decision of the coalition.
Burbok explained her position on Taurus missiles for Ukraine / UNIAN collage, photo Getty Images, screenshotThe Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Annalena Berbock, said that she supports the transfer of long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine, but, unfortunately, there is no unity among German politicians on this issue.In an interview with Bloomberg, Burbok said that she understands the importance of long-range missiles for Ukraine, as she visited Kharkiv, where it is impossible to organize effective air defense because of the proximity to the border.
“The only security measure, as I was told: count to 45, if you have reached 50, you are safe, if not, it is obvious that you have been hit,” said the head of the German Foreign Ministry.
That is why, she stressed, it is so important to allow Western weapons to strike the Russian Federation – so that Ukraine can not wait for the missile to cross the border, but destroy military facilities on the other side.
Answering a direct question whether, in her personal opinion, Germany should provide Ukraine with Taurus, Burbok clearly answered: “Of course.” At the same time, she emphasized that for this a unanimous decision of the coalition is necessary, but so far there is no unity in it:
“On Taurus, we’re a democracy. We don’t have unity in our coalition. That’s why we’re not supplying Taurus. I have a personal opinion on that, but we’re a coalition. So we have to make a unanimous decision.”
Taurus missiles for Ukraine – what is knownEarlier, the Minister of Defense of Germany, Boris Pistorius, said that he was not against the Armed Forces striking the territory of the Russian Federation with weapons provided by other partners, but Berlin itself would not hand over its Taurus missiles to Ukraine.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz later said that Germany does not plan to send long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine, and this is the final decision.
