While some Poles were blocking the borders of Ukraine, others were handing out visas to Russians, despite the existing ban.
These facts became known from a new report of the Higher Control and Audit Service of Poland. She found that the previous Polish government, led by Mateusz Morawiecki, illegally issued visas to Russians under the Poland Business Harbor program and other regimes, although the ban on this was effective from March 1, 2022.
In total, by the end of 2023, when the Morawiecki government resigned, 1,838 Polish Schengen visas had been issued to Russians.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk reacted immediately after the report was released, saying that the worst suspicions had been confirmed. Through an official post on the X network, Tusk said that the government of the Law and Justice party allowed a large number of foreigners into the country in exchange for bribes, while the country’s soldiers fought to protect Poland on the border with Belarus.
The situation in Poland: the latest newsAs UNIAN wrote, the other day Polish Foreign Minister Radoslav Sikorskyi said that Warsaw supports Ukraine’s European integration, but it has “its own demands” for Kyiv. Before that, Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosyniak-Kamysh said that Ukraine will not become a member of the European Union unless the “Volyn issue” is resolved.
Polish President Andrzej Duda criticized the ministers for such statements. “If someone says that he will block Ukraine’s access to the EU, then he fits into Putin’s policy,” Duda said.
