People’s deputy Artem Dmytruk, who illegally left Ukraine, reported on his detention in London and the court hearing regarding his extradition. The politician said this in his telegram.

“Zelensky demands my urgent extradition. Today, as part of this process, I was detained by law enforcement officers – after that, a court hearing was held. I will say one thing: I will stay in touch with you,” said Dmytruk in the video, without providing other details.

Earlier, Artem Dmytruk told the British publication The Independent that on Tuesday, September 24, he will appear before a court in Great Britain to contest the extradition request from the Ukrainian government.

The publication wrote that during the court session, the deputy will emphasize that he is a victim of political oppression by the government of Ukraine because of his support for the church.

On August 24, 2024, the deputy illegally left for Moldova. The Prosecutor General’s Office has appealed to a number of countries with a request for the detention, arrest and subsequent extradition of People’s Deputy Artem Dmytrouk to Ukraine.

On August 29, the State Bureau of Investigation declared the deputy internationally wanted. On August 25, Dmytruk was informed of the suspicion of assaulting a law enforcement officer while on duty.

The bureau recalled that, according to its data, during his stay in Odesa, the suspect, together with accomplices, attacked a law enforcement officer while performing official duties. Dmytruk himself stated that the case against him was falsified, and that he was allegedly going to be killed or imprisoned in order to deprive him of the opportunity to continue his political activities. He opposes the ban on the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine.

Dmytrouk was expelled from the Servant of the People faction in November 2021. The deputy is known for several scandals. He opposed the ban on the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine. In January 2022, Dmytruk staged a fight in the Odesa City Council in order to enter the meeting hall.
