Ukraine has a missile program designed for three years. But it needs funding from partners.

Defense Minister Rustem Umyerov said this in an interview with the Left Bank newspaper.

Answering a question about the state of the Ukrainian missile program, the head of the defense department said that before that it was managed by the Ministry of Strategic Industries. From 2024, the Ministry of Defense took it over.

“We transferred General Klochka from the Main Directorate of Intelligence, with whom we conducted an audit, checked what was needed where necessary. How many MANPADS, for example, “Hrads”, “Hurricanes”, “Tornadoes”. We looked at the aircraft components, how many long-range missiles are needed. They checked everything. We know the numbers. And we determine how much and how we will finance it,” Umyerov said.

He added that the missile program is designed for three years. And now Ukraine has started negotiations with partners to attract direct financing.

According to the minister, missiles are a difficult issue, but “we solved it.”

“We use these missiles. And we want to increase our local production, because we will always need missiles for deterrence and repulsion. Accordingly, we invest in it and ask our partners to invest. These are long-, medium- and short-range missiles and drones,” Umyerov emphasized.

It will be recalled that on August 27, Zelensky announced the successful test of the first domestic ballistic missile.

In 2023, Zelensky dismissed Yury Gusev from the post of general director of Ukroboronprom. The mass media wrote that due to the failure of the missile program, the president was promised that in May 2023, Ukrainian “Sapsan” missiles would begin to massively destroy Russian military infrastructure in the depths of the territory of the Russian Federation, but this did not happen.
