After a four-hour meeting of the Poland-Ukraine Parliamentary Assembly, the parliamentarians of the countries unanimously adopted a declaration – a joint view on security issues and bilateral cooperation.

In the declaration, among other things, the parties expressed their readiness to intensively cooperate in matters of recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine, which is necessary for the future development and stabilization of the region.

The document also states that Poland supports the Peace Formula of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi as a single, reliable basis for future peace negotiations, the basis of a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace for Ukraine.

“The Republic of Poland confirms its co-chairmanship (together with Denmark and Norway) in point 3 of the FM “Energy Security” and involvement in working groups regarding all 10 points of the Peace Formula and readiness to promote its provisions at the international level,” the declaration reads.

The parties agreed to cooperate more intensively in carrying out search, exhumation and other activities aimed at dignified burial of victims of conflicts, repressions and crimes committed on the territories of the Republic of Poland and Ukraine.

The Ukrainian side expressed hope for progress in the negotiation process on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union during the Polish presidency of the EU Council.

“I am convinced that this issue will be one of the priorities of our presidency, but it is worth noting that the pace of accession to the EU will not depend only on Poland, and not even only on the political will of other countries, but on real progress in the convergence of laws and the economic system of Ukraine to European standards. And in this context, we appreciate the reassurance of the Ukrainian side in the desire not only to rebuild the country, but also to rebuild some aspects of the state, based on Western norms,” summed up co-chairwoman, deputy marshal of the Seimas Monika Velikhovska.

Her counterpart, Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Olena Kondratiuk, noted that today during the assembly, the most important issues for Ukraine were considered – accession to the EU and NATO, combating disinformation and further economic cooperation, in particular in the energy sector, as well as the work of the new Council for Assistance to Ukraine.

“Poland is not only our strategic partner, but also an ally, and that’s why we should create as many joint dialogues and various platforms as possible, including using parliamentary diplomacy, which is very important, because it contributes precisely to intergovernmental cooperation,” concluded Kondratiuk.

The deputy speaker of the Verkhovna Rada suggested that the next session of the Poland-Ukraine Parliamentary Assembly be held in Kyiv, adding that her counterpart, Monika Velikhovska, had never been to Ukraine.

The Poland-Ukraine Parliamentary Assembly met in Warsaw for the first time in four years, it was the 13th session of parliament members of the two countries.
