Former heads of the Security Service of Ukraine and 21 high-ranking officials of the FSB of Russia will be tried for crimes committed during the Revolution of Dignity.

This is reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.

Prosecutors sent to the court an indictment against the former head of the Security Service of Ukraine, his first deputy and the head of the Department for the Protection of National Statehood, as well as the director and 20 employees of the Russian FSB for conducting subversive activities against Ukraine, committing actions aimed at inciting national enmity and hatred in Ukraine, illegal obstructing protests in 2013-2014.

Among the defendants is an army general, the former head of the security service of the President of the Russian Federation, the deputy commander-in-chief of the Internal Troops, and five other generals who held leading positions in the Russian special services.

The investigation established that in December 2013, following a joint decision of the then heads of the SBU and FSB of the Russian Federation, 20 employees of the Russian special service came to Ukraine.

FSB employees were stationed in SBU buildings and, with the support of the former head of the department, his deputy and the head of the department, organized the creation of provocative videos. They created a YouTube channel, through which they distributed more than 250 videos on the Internet and media. They discredited socio-political events in Ukraine and humiliated Ukrainians as a nation in general.

Thus, during the investigation in criminal proceedings regarding crimes committed in connection with mass protests in 2013-2014, the direct influence of the Russian special services on the former leadership of the Ukrainian special services with the aim of conducting joint subversive activities against Ukraine and inciting national enmity and hatred was established .

The former head of the SBU and the head of the SBU Department will also be tried for collaborative activity – voluntarily taking positions in 2022 in the “security organs” of the aggressor state of the Russian Federation, illegally formed in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. Since the accused are hiding from law enforcement agencies and are wanted internationally, a special pre-trial investigation (in absentia) was conducted in relation to them.

It will be recalled that in August of this year, the commanders of the special purpose police units “Berkut” of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Lviv, Kharkiv regions and the city of Sevastopol, as well as the assistant chief of staff of the Lviv “Berkut” were informed of suspicions regarding the organization of illegal obstruction of protests on the night of the 18th to the 19th February 2014 in the central part of Kyiv.

Earlier, it turned out that on February 20, 2014, the head of the cyber security department of the Security Service of Ukraine, Brigadier General Ilya Vityuk, filmed how soldiers of the Berkut special police unit shot protesters on the Maidan in Kyiv during the Revolution of Dignity.

About 20 law enforcement officers continue to work in the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine, who are charged with crimes against the participants of the Revolution of Dignity. Law enforcement officers are trying to delay referral of cases to court.
