On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi met with Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida.

The head of state awarded the head of the Japanese government with the Order of Yaroslav the Wise, 1st degree.

“I am very glad to meet you. And this award is not only from me – from the entire Ukrainian people. We are very grateful for such strong support of Ukraine, Ukrainians from the very beginning of the full-scale invasion,” said the President.

Volodymyr Zelenskyi thanked Japan for financial and humanitarian aid in the amount of more than 12 billion euros, as well as for supporting sanctions against the Russian Federation. The head of state emphasized that it is important to continue work on blocking all loopholes that Russia uses to circumvent sanctions.

Among the topics of discussion is cooperation with partners in the G7 and the EU to create a practical mechanism that will make it possible to get $50 billion from frozen Russian assets.

Volodymyr Zelenskyi also spoke about the current situation in the energy sector. Fumio Kishida said that Japan is preparing a new energy aid package that will include transformers, generators and other equipment.
