According to Sport.ua, the football player left for America a few months after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, when the spring part of the 2021/22 season was not played for this reason and he received a “release” from Chernihiv “Desna”.
After appearing in Odesa, 24-year-old Shevtsov spent a few weeks getting used to the new team and familiarizing himself with the coaching requirements, which allowed his name to be included in the list of participants in Saturday’s match of the 7th round of the Ukrainian Premier League between Chornomorets and Karpaty. However, he did not take part in this match.
Oleksandr Babich, the head coach of the “Sailors”, said about the newcomer’s prospects.
“He needs time. We all remember his game for “Desna”. This is an attacker of a different format than Khoblenko and Popov. He is a little “thinner”, he can play a stretched forward. We are counting on him, although at the moment Shevtsov’s functional condition is not enough for half a half. To date, we have a group of football players who have gone through all the meetings and training sessions with the team, so they more or less understand our requirements in terms of tactics. We have competition, and if Ilya works properly, he will definitely get his chance.”
Ilya Shevtsov is the son of Serhiy Shevtsov, a former player of Kherson “Krystal”, Dnipropetrovsk “Dnipro”, “Vorskla”, “Tavria” and “Zakarpatta”, who has been working as a coach for about two dozen years. In addition to performances in the already mentioned “Charlotte Independence” and “Desna”, he defended the colors of “Crystal” and “Shakhtar” Donetsk (U-19).
