In the occupied Crimea, a court sentenced a citizen of Ukraine to 14 years in a high-security prison in a case of espionage in favor of Ukraine, Russian mass media reported with reference to Russia’s FSB.

“Mediazona” writes that Mykhailo Suhachev is under the initials given by the department (MA Suhachev), against whom the case under such an article was initially considered by the Sverdlovsk Regional Court in Yekaterinburg, and later it was transferred to the jurisdiction of Crimea.

According to the investigation, Sukhachev passed data to Ukraine on the work of anti-aircraft missile units of the Russian army on the territory of the partially occupied Zaporizhzhia region.

After the start of the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine, those who spoke out against the war are being persecuted en masse in Crimea. In 2023, in the Russian Federation, at least 98 people became involved in criminal cases of treason, 31 – of espionage, and 19 – of cooperation with foreigners. No less than 88 such cases have been brought to the courts, and 50 of them have already received guilty verdicts, according to the Radio Liberty Sibir.Realii project.

In March 2014, Russia occupied the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea. International organizations recognized these actions as illegal and condemned Russia’s actions, and Western countries imposed economic sanctions against Moscow. The Kremlin denies the occupation of the peninsula and calls it “the restoration of historical justice.”
