Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that he has become less emotional during the full-scale war unleashed by Russia.

Responding to The New Yorker’s question about how war changes a person, Zelensky said:

“I’m still holding on if you’re talking about me… Maybe I’ve become less emotional. There is simply no time for that. Just as there is no time for reasoned reasoning and arguments.”

He added that now he has the opportunity to think out loud only during interviews.

“I do not do this with my subordinates and colleagues in the government. If I sat down and thought about each decision for an hour, I would only be able to make two or three decisions a day. But I have to approve twenty or thirty,” Zelensky said.

According to him, chaos reigned in Ukraine in the first days of the war.

“When people were afraid of the full occupation of the country, nobody knew what to do. Some people fled in one direction, law enforcement agencies in another. There were even stories about the president escaping somewhere. It was chaos. The fact is that I was among those who remained and put an end to this chaos,” the head of state said.

Commenting on his comparison with Winston Churchill and Charlie Chaplin, who fought against fascism, Zelensky said:

“To compare myself with the people you mentioned seems immodest… Chaplin had an undoubted talent for telling a story, finding a way to reach people. He didn’t just broadcast some facts and figures – he used the language of cinema to create an emotional narrative. He used this talent to fight fascism. As for Churchill, he was the leader of a country that found itself in very difficult circumstances, but still managed to become the only country in Europe that firmly said “no” to fascism… And this “no” convinced America that it should get serious an ally in the war.”
