Vodafone Idea Ltd. signed a $3.6 billion contract with companies including Nokia and Samsung to supply equipment to the Indian phone operator for a planned upgrade of its network.

About this informs Bloomberg.

Nokia, Ericsson AB and Samsung Electronics Co. will supply network equipment for three years. Vodafone Idea is looking to upgrade its 4G services and roll out 5G in key regions of India, it said in a filing to Indian stock exchanges. The deal is the first step in the company’s $6.6 billion three-year capital investment plan.

Ericsson and Nokia are already suppliers to the Indian company, while Samsung has become a new partner. Vodafone Idea, which raised $2.2 billion through a share sale in April, will finance the contract with that money. The company is in talks with lenders to obtain 350 billion rupees ($4.2 billion) in loans and bank guarantees, according to the statement. Equipment deliveries will begin next quarter.
