— Serhiy Gnezdilov, a serviceman of the 56th separate motorized infantry brigade of Mariupol, a well-known serviceman, announced that he voluntarily left his unit. According to him, he has been at war since 2019. Voluntarily left the military unit in public. In this way, he wants to draw attention to the absence of fixed terms of service. So far, he says, there has been no official response to his actions. But, Roman, this is a challenge for you, both for deputies and government officials. It seems that in April, the Ministry of Defense announced that in eight months they would develop a draft law that would provide for clear terms of service. Seven months have already passed, but it seems that this idea has been abandoned. How do you like this act of Hnezdilov? Will he draw attention to this problem at the level of deputies and ministers?

Video of the day

– First of all, I don’t know who this is – Serhiy Gnezdilov. Secondly, we must understand that it is a criminal offense to voluntarily leave a part (SZH). He could be held accountable for that, especially when he popularizes the story so much.

If this guy has served since 2019, I understand that he must have been a contract worker, that is, he signed a contract for the defense of the country, which clearly states what you should do. Therefore, one thing is clear terms of service and ordinary mobilized, another thing is how professional soldiers who signed a contract and made the army their profession react to it.

Regarding clear terms of service. Of course, it would be better if there were specific terms of service. I always talked about it. And I think that it would be right that specific terms of service should be defined, with two hands by”. But no [потрібно] to popularize it by abandoning their comrades, the front line, and saying that “this is my protest, I stop defending the Motherland because there are no clear terms of service.”

I think we need to talk about it. But I will say it again as a person who sees how mobilization is going on in our country: this is definitely the responsibility of both society and those who are currently avoiding military service. Because we do not have clear terms of service due to the fact that we have problems with mobilization. And I will say that lately it has gotten a little worse than it was before.

My question is how we can define these clear lifetimes (for which I also advocate and prescribed it in my draft law on motivation), if we have no one to replace [військових нафронті]. Therefore, the question here is primarily about mobilization and motivation of people. And those who [кажуть, щоце] a question for the authorities, a challenge for the deputies, [помиляються] – this is a challenge for the whole society, because someone goes to the army and protects [державу]and someone does not want to go there and believes that the work will be done instead of him.

Regarding the draft law. Every day when I was in Kyiv, I drove past the roadblocks that are near [урядового] quarter, near the Verkhovna Rada, I meet with women who also stand with posters and demand clear terms of service for men. We communicate every day, I already have acquaintances there, with whom we constantly discuss this situation. Therefore, this task was set for the Verkhovna Rada in the resolution when we voted for the law on mobilization, namely to develop a draft law on demobilization. The deadlines are exactly mid-autumn.
