Details: The accident occurred in the village of Lehuw, Kielce County, on national road No. 74. As Malgozhata Perkowska-Kipas from the Kielce City Police Command reported, according to preliminary data, a 65-year-old driver of a minibus, who was driving in the direction of Opatów, left his lane for unknown reasons and crashed into into a tree, after which the vehicle overturned on its right side.
Young football players from Ozarov aged 16 to 18 and their coach were also on the bus.
The 65-year-old bus driver died on the spot. Eighteen people were injured. 14 of them were taken to hospitals in Kielce, Opatów and Staszów. Four people did not require hospitalization.
Perkovska-Kipas reported that the 43-year-old coach of young football players died in the hospital a few hours later.
Three helicopters of the Air Rescue Service landed at the scene.
The General Directorate of National Roads and Motorways reported by 21:30 about the elimination of obstacles at the scene of the accident.
According to three boys aged 17-18, it seems that the driver lost consciousness and drove straight into a tree. If it hadn’t been for the coach who grabbed the steering wheel and turned it around, they would have hit a tree in the center and, the boys said, probably would have all died.
